HD 101: What is "High Definition?"

Last Update: 9/11/2007 6:09 pm

If you watch channel 9, you've heard about HD, or high-definition television. But are you still wondering what exactly HD means?

I'll explain in todays edition of our ongoing series....HD 101.

HDTV provides much more detailed pictures than a traditional analog set. The video quality is comparable to a movie in a theater. Some say the difference between analog and HD is as dramatic as the difference between black and white to color.

Standard broadcast TV has only 330 "lines of resolution" ...How picture sharpness is measured.

Dvd players offer 400 lines, which is better.

But Hi Def has at least 720 lines, which means a much sharper picture than even a DVD.
