HD 101: High Def Cables

Last Update: 10/11/2007 5:40 pm

In the old days, all you needed was a basic 5 dollar cable to hook your TV to your VCR. But have you seen the choices --and prices --in cables for High Def TV?

Making sense of the tangle of High Def cables is todays subject in HD 101.

If you have a High Def set you'll notice a new type of connection port on the back, called an HDMI input. It stands for High Definition multimedia interface. It provides a true digital hookup to DVD players and video games.

Of course, with an HDTV, you can still use an old fashioned coax cable or Component red-green-blue cables.

But experts say digital HDMI cables will give the best picture. They can be expensive in TV stores, however.Check for cheaper HDMI cables at Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, and Target, or online at Amazon, Shopzilla, and other retailers.

Shopzilla.com is owned by our parent company, EW Scripps.
