People love to complain about the cable TV company. Many ask me: Why can't there be any local competition...besides satellite services, which require a dish on your roof?
Well, in a handful of Cincinnati-area neighborhoods, you finally have another source for your TV:
Cincinnati Bell!

Cincinnati Bell FiOptics TV.Cincinnati bell is slowly rolling out a fiber optic TV service to some Tri State communities.
And people in neighborhoods that already have the service -- like Mt Adams -- are relishing the idea of true competition.
Competition to "Keep the Bills Down"Diann Burns told me "Its nice. Its nice to have the competition. It's something to keep the cable bills down!"
Indeed, it appears to be keeping the bills down: In Mt Adams you can get
250 TV channels, plus a DVR , and super high speed internet for $84 a month the first year. It's $94 a month with local phone service included. Rates will be slightly higher the second year, and thereafter, according to Bell.
If it's any indication of what's to come,
Time Warner Cable is sending notices to Mt Adams residents offering lower rates to stay with the cable company. You won't get that letter in other neighborhoods.
The TV service is comparable to Digital cable or satellite...plus you get a wireless modem for your computer....and it all plugs in to your phone jack.
But a Small CatchSo you're saying "great! How do it get it?" There's only one small catch: You have to live in one of a handful of communities that are wired for fiber.
The old copper phone lines on your telephone pole won't work for 250 channels of Digital TV. So you need
fiber lines....all the way from Cincinnati Bell's home office to your street, and into your house.
Cincinnati Bell says it will take years to lay fiber lines through the entire Tri State region. It won't say how many years, or if all areas will eventually get fiber, however.
