CincyResident - I live near king automall and if you saw some of the trade ins I saw, you'd know it wasn't just for the poor. I had been looking for a new car for several months. I was laid off the last week of may, but kept looking, hoping to find a new job. My husband has always bought used, fixed up and sold a couple years later for more than he paid. His '91 jeep needed the engine rebuilt and a long list of other things costing over $1000 in parts. Being Pregnant I couldn't help like I usually did and the jeep was our only 4 door. It needed to go! We checked out the program and found the jeep qualified. He was approved for a small loan and off looking we went. We found a small 4 door that the average mpg was triple the jeep. The gas savings alone made over half the car payment. SO YES WE DID CASH FOR CLUNKERS. The jeep wasn't worth $500 and with the work it needed no one would buy it. He was spending over $250 a month in gas and now only $80 and the car payment is $192. This is his first NEW car ever. Now we have 2 dependable cars, but until I find a new job, I'm stuck with my 2 door Mustang convertible. I am thrilled to death he won't be spending all his spare time working on the jeep. Now if he works on a car its for spare money. :)

Yet another Obama idea that only helps the poor....

Not against the program. Just against using my tax dollars to do it. The article may be a bit biased. I believe it was written by someone that helped create the program.

For all those who are against Cash for Clunkers, please read this: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/09/hidary.cash.clunkers/index.html Maybe it will give you some additional information.

A little CHANGE is a beautiful thing, isn't it? Better get used to it. It is only just beginning...

The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate. Henry Blogger www.cashforclunkersfacts.info http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.info

It IS taxpayer dollars and I for one..DO CARE. This program is crazy... Im paying people to run out an buy a new car, that even I cant afford !?! Why should I be paying for 'dividends' for those that make more than I do ?? A crushed car is worth about 250$ in scrap metal, thats It. Sure !! Lets all go deeper into debt !! That'll really help the economy !! Ive been driving for 30 years, worked the entire time and Ive never been able to afford a new car. Their running out of money already and they expect me to believe there will still be money in medicare when I retire in 15 years...I doubt that !!!

It's amazing, 4500 in taxpayer dollars for a car that will be crushed. That's about what a scrap car is worth. No one cares because it's taxpayer dollars. There's a sucker born every minute, as they say. How much do people think we had to pay the North Koreans for letting the journalists go? It's all a scam. Why don't they sell the trade-in cars to another country? The bad guys have to get the cars they blow up from somewhere. People are going into more debt at a time when they can't afford it, and if you can't afford to make payments the program won't be for you anyway. Bad deal all around I'd say.

@KentuckyFan So John is the only one able to update posts on the internet. Got it. I did not know you had such valuable insight or that he was that invaluable to WCPO. Thanks for the fantastic information.

If a clunker was the best a person could afford, how will they pay for the new car. Sounds like re-po men will be very busy in a few months.
