just read the recall details on this. None of that could have happened if the child was of the right age and the parents were watching them.

Actually, most of them are made here. My dad used to design these. They all get recalled if one thing happens to one child. I have a 6 month old sleeping in one right now that my dad designed and it was recalled. He would not have given that to me to put his grand son in if he wasn't 100% positive that it was safe. But they are only safe if used properly. The reason these are collapsing is because of stupid parents who don't take the time to read the directions and set them up the right way. Another reason is because stupid parents, again, let their children use them way past the age they should. Once a child can stand up and jump around, they should not be in these. Parents also leave their children unattended while they are jumping around and hanging on the railings. Of course it will eventually collapse if this is going on. They're not made of steel. People need to quit blaming companies for childrens injuries and instead follow the directions and watch your children.

Bengalsgal - Suppose you were CEO of the company that made these and decided to move your factory to China to take advantage of the cheap labor. At this point would you be holding yourself responsible for the decisions you made and the quality of products your company puts out, or would you crucify the laborers working in your factory? The Chinese are the scapegoats for the greedy, irresponsible people taking advantage of them.

I'll bet ya a hundred bucks that these playpens were made in China. The Chinese are bound and determined to kill American kids, selling us their lead-filled toys and defective baby equipment. I also blame the American companies who have their products made outside the U.S. Based on their track record, we need to quit importing crappy -- and I do mean CRAPPY -- products made in China. Hopefully, one of these days, U.S. companies will realize that outsourcing their manufacturing jobs to other countries doesn't pay in the long run, but that will only happen when our courts start handing out huge fines and even prison sentences for making their products on the cheap.
