The City of Springdale dedicated its long-planned Veterans Memorial this Memorial Day weekend.
A 21-gun salute highlighted the ceremony that drew a large crowd this Sunday to Springfield Pike and Lawnview Avenue in the heart of Springdale.
This memorial has been nearly 10 years in the making, planners say.
The final result is a series of architectural elements designed to raise awareness and invoke a sense of respect and honor for our veterans and those currently serving in the military, planners say.
The dedication included guest speaker Sandee Rouse, mother of Pfc. James Markwell, a Springdale native and Ranger medic killed in Panama in 1989.
There was also a laying of the wreath ceremony and a beautiful rendition of Taps played.
