Magnet School Early Application Signups Start Today

Last Update: 11/02/2009 1:35 pm
CINCINNATI - Parents can start applying early for seven magnet schools on Monday.

Early applicants are those who are siblings of current students and sixth grade Montessori and all Schiel students. The application process will last for two weeks. The open enrollment process will begin on November 18.

Schools have tried to stop what happened in years past when parents camped out.

Cincinnati Public Schools operate seven different specialty programs at 21 schools throughout the district. These magnet schools emphasize different teaching styles and focus on certain subjects. They also outperform traditional schools.

CPS and parents have changed start times for the application process.

The changes this year are:
  • Schiel school will accept application for SCPA.  The two schools will merge in August 2010, to make one K-12 school.
  • Fairview-Clifton German Language School will accept applications beginning at midnight November 18.
  • Sands, North Avondale, Winton, and Dater Montessori will start accepting applications at 6 a.m. on November 18.
  • North Avondale will take applications the first hour of the day on November 18 at the North Avondale Recreation Center on Clifton Springs Avenue. Then, signups will go to the school's temporary location on Glenwood Avenue.
