Traffic was off to a slow start through Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, after a flipped beer truck caused big problems early in the morning.

The timing was terrible, as the accident happened just before the start of the rush hour commute through the Cut-in-the-Hill.

All of northbound Interstate 71/75 was closed for a while in the area after after a semi driver lost control and flipped his Budweiser truck near the 12th Street exit around 3 a.m.

Police say the truck may have rolled over more than once, and rescue crews had to extricate the driver. There is no word yet on the driver's injuries, but they are not believed to be too serious as he was seen talking on a cell phone and walking around after the crash.

Even though the truck flipped off on the right shoulder, officials were forced to close down all northbound lanes at one point. Later, only the left lane and shoulder were open while crews worked to clear up the mess.

At of 5 a.m., still hours before the formal start of the morning rush hour, traffic was already backed up past the Kyles Lane overpass in Fort Wright.

All northbound lanes finally reopened around 6:30 a.m., but the wrecked truck was still blocking the right shoulder for several hours after that.

Traffic remained slow all morning as another truck responded to the scene to move the cargo of beer kegs from the overturned semi.
