Last Update: 5/18 5:19 pm
The Boone County Public Library has been recognized for innovative thinking in resource sharing.  The following is a release from the Boone County Public Library.

Burlington, KY — Officials with the Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative have honored Boone County Public with one of three 2009 Innovation Awards.

The award recognizes the Kentucky Libraries Unbound Local Content Project which makes local items of historical importance available in a downloadable format.

Kentucky Libraries Unbound (KLU) is a group of public library systems that have joined together to offer downloadable media to residents in their counties. KLU currently has 27 member libraries, representing counties spread through all regions of the Commonwealth.

Last year, Boone County Public Library’s Virtual Services Librarian, Jennifer Gregory, and Local History Librarian, Bridget Striker, began adding local history titles to the downloadable collection.

The material added encompasses everything from Civil War history to flute music. The librarians began with Boone County material and then invited other member libraries to join in.

The KLU Local Content Project now has contributions from three Kentucky counties and more county libraries are interested in getting involved.

The Kentucky Libraries Unbound Local Content Project received an award of $1,000 and Jennifer Gregory and Bridget Striker were recognized for their resource sharing efforts at the Rethinking Resource Sharing Forum 2009 in Dublin, Ohio.

The Rethinking Resource Sharing (RRS) Innovation Awards recognizes and honors an individual or institution for changes they made to improve users’ access to information through resource sharing in their library, consortium or state.

It is hoped that the award will encourage libraries and librarians to make changes in how they do resource sharing to improve service to users.

RRS looks for efforts where people didn’t wait for the profession to provide better services for users.
