The war in Iraq has claimed the life of another young Tri-State native.
A 25-year-old Marine from Clermont County died yesterday. His family and community are mourning.
This isn't the first time family friends in and around Clermont County have mourned a death.
Mark Wojciechowski, who goes by Tony, was a Marine and graduate of Glen Este High School, the same high school as the late Matt Maupin.
"A graduate of anywhere, we hate to hear another soldier, Marine, has been killed,” said Erica Huff, of the Yellow Ribbon Support Center. “And it's very unfortunate that it's another one for Glen Este."
The Yellow Ribbon Support Center is an organization set up by friends and family of Staff Sergeant Matt Maupin.
After hearing Wojciechowski died in Iraq Thursday, she says it's time for not just family, but a community to come together.
"This community has really come together,” said Huff. “With Matt being gone for four years – and the soldiers and Marines that have died from the Tri-State area – we just had our event on April 9 honoring 53 of them. Unfortunately now we have one more."
According to the Department of Defense, Wojciechowski was a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps and died along side a fellow Marine yesterday while supporting combat operations in Al Anbar province Iraq.
Wojciechowski was assigned to the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendelton, California.
Huff says she understands what it means to lose someone close to your heart, and has a message for Wojciechowski's family.
"If they want to come and talk to us, they can call and they can come over anytime,” said Huff. “We'll do whatever we can to help them."
9News did speak with Wojciechowski's family and friends Friday night. Understandably, they said it's too soon to say anything, however they wanted everyone to know that Wojciechowski was a proud Marine.
