A majority of "yes" votes on Tuesday would dissolve the Village of Amelia, while enough "no" votes would save it.
"This is a layer of government that we don't need," said Tammy Robinson. “We have more buying power when we're absorbed into the townships. We can get the same services for the same price, if not less.”
"I like my village," countered Renee Gerber. “I want to keep it. I think my city council does a wonderful job representing me.”
The temperature inside the Amelia Elementary School gym reflected the heated debate that's been raging for months.
That debate will be over next Tuesday on May 5 when voters go to the polls.
The issue took hold when some residents upset over a proposed one percent income tax hike decided they didn't need the services of Amelia anymore.
"They came to the conclusion that the village government is basically an unnecessary and burdensome layer of government," said Curt Hartman, an attorney for those looking to dissolve the village.
"I believe we have a group that wants to dissolve our village for many different reasons," said Melita Ellington. “I think that they clearly have not been able to show fact for their reasons.”
