Southbound I-75 in the Evendale area has reopened while police investigate a shooting that left two people dead early Wednesday morning.
Police reopened the portion of southbound 75 from Sharon Road to Glendale Milford Road at 11 a.m., however, the ramp from southbound 75 to Glendale Milford remains closed.
The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. at the 14.3 mile-marker of southbound I-75, which is near Sharon Road. Police say it may have begun as an argument in an area nightclub, then escalated along the interstate.
Officers tell 9News that one or more people in a silver vehicle shot at a red SUV in the southbound lanes, causing the SUV to flip. The silver vehicle continued on, while the SUV remained wrecked on the interstate.
Police say two men in the SUV died.
A suspect may have been apprehended in Springfield Township, but details on any arrests are unclear at this time. Evendale Police Chief Gary Foust says they do have some information about suspects. "We do have several witnesses," he said. "Investigators are running down those leads."
Police closed the interstate for several hours until they located all of the shell casings.
Drivers were forced to exit at Sharon Road and get back on at Glendale Milford Road. The closure caused traffic to back-up to I-275.
9News has learned police found a gun thought to be connected to the crime. It's unclear where the weapon was located.
