Cincinnati City Council Member John Cranley (D-Price Hill) is resigning.

Cranley, who, because of term limits, could not run for reelection this year, is citing his involvement with City Lights Development Corporation.  It is building Incline Square in East Price Hill.  Cranley says he consulted with the Ohio Ethics Commission and decided that he should resign because of his involvement with the project as it moves forward with securing funding and groundbreaking.

A successor to complete Cranley's term will be selected by the other four Democrats on Council.  They are Vice Mayor David Crowley as well as Council Members Jeff Berding, Laketa Cole, and Cecil Thomas.

Democratic party insiders say two obvious candidates are Greg Harris and Brian Garry, both of whom have run unsuccessfully for Council before and were likely planning bids for Council this year anyway.
