There is a local organization that is searching for war veterans who need help transitioning from war zones back to family life.

Lisa Dunster founded the Compass Retreat Center where volunteers offer programs to help war veterans, primarily from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, readjust to civilian life.

Dunster, a former member of the Ohio National Guard, was called to active duty for the first Gulf War and sent overseas to serve in Saudi Arabia.

Dunster says there are many challenges to returning home, including dealing with stress and anger.

Compass Retreat Center is hosting a free weekend retreat for veterans and their families.

There will be fun activities as well as workshops to help families deal with getting to know one another again.

The retreat is December 4 - 6 at Spring Hill Camp in Seymour, Indiana.

The weekend is designed for families to reconnect without all the distractions and to be intentional about rediscovering all that they love about their family.

It will also seek to not only help the service member, but also the mom or dad, the son or daughter who stayed behind.
