Is there, or is there not anything that a person with a felony can do that that can make them a real living (a living where they don't have to continue living with their mommies and daddies for the rest of their lives) and isn't in the trucking industry or the fast food industry? This is where you chime in with "what about being a brick layer, or carpenter, electrician, etc?" Here's the reason that doesn't work either. If the person got the felony at a young age, such as in my case, to where they never got that kind of experience, then where are they supposed to go to get the experience when no one will hire them in the first place? But let's just say that they do have the experience, where are they supposed to get a job? No one will hire them when they have to continually go into customer houses or offices under zero supervision or be around expensive equipment all day that can easily be stolen and sold off to shady under ground characters. I get so tired of hearing from both parties arguing that we need to have stricter laws so that we can give even more people felonies and then it's the very same people the next night complaining about all the homeless and out of work people there are in this country. Here's the sad, f*cked up part of it all. most every single person that reads this will have done something today (if not in the last week) that warrants them getting a felony on their respective records. Remember all you Bible thumpers "Render unto Ceaser that which is Cearsers and render unto God that which is God's". Meaning that if you speed enough times and get away with it then you're still committing theft from the government for not paying a ticket that you just didn't get caught to get. How about when you slack off at work for the last 15 minutes of the day, isn't that stealing form your boss?

I think this guy deserves a chance. This should be a case-by-case deal. Not just a rule that covers everyone. Good luck Sir!

I applaud penpal 123 for summing it up:" This young man should be applauded for not falling victim to his circumstances and not getting into any more trouble. The odds are definitely stacked against any felon to be able to move on. None of us are the same people that we were 10 years ago." He's probably been working at McDonald's ( which seems to be where all the 'Haves' like to tell all the 'Have Nots' to seek employment as a form of put-down) for the last ten years to stay out of trouble. I respect this man for trying to better himself and breaking the cycle. He's probably less than a tenth of a percent statistically - by not being a repeat offender. Because the odds, circumstances and the majority of the population are against him!

Just think, when Trina Porter goes to court, takes a plea agreement for a misdemeanor, she won't be a felon, and she can get her job back on a technicality!!

sioux your right people do change I also know of a factory that gets bonuses for hiring felons and all the people that work in the factory do very well

I'm indifferent to the idea. On one hand, this was something that happened 10 years ago and he did serve his time. On the other, isn't that one thing that we teach youth to keep them out of trouble, that a felony will follow you the rest of your life? Ultimately it should really depend on the crime committed, how much time has passed, and what job they want. It shouldn't be an out-right no, but it shouldn't always be a yes either.

PEOPLE DO CHANGE AND WHY NOT LET THEM PROVE IT MANY PLACES HIRE FELONS LIKE SEX OFFENDERS CAUSE THEY THE COMPANY GET PAID TO HIRE THEM OUT WHERE MY HUSBAND WORKS THEY DO HIRE FELONS AND MANY HAVE BEEN THERE FOR YEARS

I guess that depends on what type of felony they have been convicted on that would be kind of stupid to put someone thats been charged with theft in charge of handling money or a registered sex offender have a job being around kids, with a little common sense this might work..

If you can be released from bankrupcy after 10 years and receive a fresh start, you should be able to get a job as well. Restitution has been paid as per the terms set by the courts. The key point for me is 10 years ago. He is not trying to work for a pharmaceutical company for crying out loud but MSD. This young man should be applauded for not falling victim to his circumstances and not getting into any more trouble. The odds are definitely stacked against any felon to be able to move on. None of us are the same people that we were 10 years ago. After 10 years, the record should automatically be sealed. He should have gotten this expunged and then maybe it would not have been an issue.

DvyneDestiny08 "I didn't realize I lived in a city full of prejudice and judgmental people. “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”(You judge from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night... and also you seem to be judging people on the comment board, and according to you that is just wrong)"I’m not on a soap box or trying to be preachy" (Yes you are, get over yourself) Who is to say that this man hasn’t been working at McDonalds and he is now trying to better himself. "Who’s to say that he doesn’t have a family or a son that he is trying to make proud or make up for what he did wrong" (Who cares, he did it. Now let him deal with the consequences) (You're on the soap box again) "I believe in what they are trying to do as long as it’s case by case." (AGAIN, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU) "If you aren’t going to be the one to judge him at the end of his days then who are you to judge him now?" (because here on earth, people have to be accountable for their actions)This is one of the reasons the city is in shambles now.You would probably put foxes in charge of hen houses, most wouldn't in their right minds. Try thinking through things without liberal emotions coming through. The clarity of thoughts would be superb... Truman and a few others get a vote from me. Have a nice day.
