I just want to send my condolences to wanda and her family. Al Lewis will be missed. I have no photos, but i won a contest whenI was 8 or 9 yrs old, and Uncle Al was one of the celebrities who emceed the event. We won tickets to icecapades for my family from wcpo tv. To a 9 yr old, it was very nice, and he was very gracious.

A different time in TV, LIVE, no 7 second delay, LIVE TV. Uncle Al had to be different kind of person to put up with that many kids every day, all the baby boomers will miss him. And lets not forget Captain Windy, The Mean Little Kid (Bob Shreeve), and Larry Smith and his puppets. May God comfort his family.

I was on the show a few times in the mid-70's. Mom would always buy me a dress at Polly Flinder's and shine up my Mary Jane's for the show. I thought for sure that I would be "discovered" when I did a Mama's Cookies commercial. I hate to hear stories about people having bad memories of Uncle Al. He will always have a special place in my heart.

If God rewards us in heaven and judges us by how much joy we bring to others, Uncle Al now has CONTINENT of his OWN up there(no doubt it won't stay vacant very long once word gets out who he is, though) Thank you, Thank you, thank you for ALL the memories! Not only will you be missed, we're saddened that you are truly irreplaceable. God's speed (and say hello to Bob Keeshan, TOO:)

Although I didn't personally think that Al Lewis was the greatest entertainer in the world; my kids did. And that is what was important. He and Wendy enriched their lives and I sort of wish they had been available to do the same for my grandkids. You'll be missed Al.

My Mom e-mailed me this story about Uncle Al. How fortunate we were to have a local kids show in the area. What a treat to go downtown to be on the show, especially on your birthday when you were able to ride the merri-go-round. It was so fun watching to see if any of your friends were on the show from day to day, and learning the songs. My favorites were the elephant dance with Windy, and Uncle Al in the hot air balloon (first time I ever saw green screen). Now that I live in Bucyrus, I have told many people about Uncle Al up here. He will be missed by many. It is a shame that some people who have written in the blog never got the chance to know what a great tradition going to the Uncle Al show was. Next thing you know, they are going to say who was Bob Braun!

To the family of Uncle Al Lewis... I'm really sorry to hear about Uncle Al and enjoyed all the years working for him doing puppets and being part of the family... I would think of the fun we had often and it will be missed... Seymour W. Duncan (1968-1973) The years I worked at the show...Santa Barbara, CA

I must have been very young, maybe 3 years old, when I was on the Uncle Al show with my 3 older siblings -- I think Mom was their with my baby brother and she was probably pregnant at the time too! So, I have vague memories of the merry-go-round and dancing. I do remember the marshmallow ice cream cones! Thinking of Uncle Al gives me warm feelings and I feel very lucky to have been able to experience the love he shared with so many children!

With a sad heart but happy memories I wish you God Speed. I was on the show in the mid 60's and my big brother before that - we still cherish our the group photos. My parents were also personal friends of Al and Wanda. Uncle Al was a gift to Cincinnati - his love and devotion to children is now spread all over the world as we all grew and took our fond memories with us. What a legacy to behold. God bless and keep his family. Melissa N.
