Being a child in the 70's I grew up watching Uncle Al. I can remember doing the twist, Uncle Al's straw hat, Captain Windy flyingn and all the fun of watching. They just don't make characters like his any more. Uncle Al will be missed in my house my children missed out on having a great character as part of their childhood.

I will miss Uncle Al with all my heart. My mom was on the show as a child and so my parents took myself and my brother to be on the show, it was so much fun to be on the Uncle Al show. Captain Wendy was so sweet behind the camera. My heart goes out to you Wendy and your family. The world has lost a truely great man!

Uncle Al & Captain Windy were a huge part of my childhood. We have several of those black & white photos from being on the show various times. The last time in the later 60's, I remember clearly as we filed out at the end of the show--he was kneeling down with his accordion & asked me to "give Uncle Al a big kiss". Embarrassing then, a fond memory now! I also recall one of his daughters being in my kindergarten class and one day we broke the routine & turned on the TV to watch him awhile. She was quite proud and told us all that he was her daddy. It was difficult to comprehend that this TV legend could live nearby and have a little girl like me--just didn't seem possible! He certainly made magic on our TV & to this day I still sing those jingles from his show--forever a part of my life! My prayers go out to his family.

I hate to hear about the passing of Uncle Al. I watch it growing up while I lived in the Cincinnati area and was on the show once. My parents still have the photo in their photo album at home. Although I was less than 5 at the time and don't remember it, my parents always told me that a joke I told that day was used as a promo for a while. Any chance that WCPO has any of these archived from the 1970's?

Although I was only five years old I will never forget my visit on the Uncle Al show. It was a great day. I think I talked about it for for ten years. Mary Bangert

The Uncle Al Show was a big part of my childhood. I remember watching the show before grade school in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I am 47 and haven't thought too much about the show until I heard about Uncle Al's death. When I watched the video and read the comments, I was reminded of the big part he and Captain Windy played in my childhood. They were a great source of joy and happiness to countless children. Uncle Al will always be the "kiddies pal" and will be sorely missed in this life but is continuing to entertain in the next. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Captain Windy and your lovely family. Thank you Uncle Al. Mark J. Imfeld Tampa Bay

We have lost a beloved family member for most of us. What I remember about most is The Uncle Al show was safe for all kids to watch. As a child growing up watching it everyday he made each and everyone of us special no matter what we looked like, where we lived, or how poor we were. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family as we say Goodbye to a family member.....

Tom Janosick I had the great pleasure to work on the Uncle Al show during the 1966-67 season. What a great time! The kids in the studio loved the show. The more "outgoing" kids couldn't wait to be chosen to be the operator of one of those colorful cardboard cars which they "drove" in circles while Uncle Al played the accordian and sang. Captain Windy was absolutely wonderful with the kids. The more "quiet" ones loved Windy's "art" segment and were glued to her art easel while Windy drew those "special" pictures. I had a great time operating the "Merry Mailman" and "Chipmunk" characters every day. Always tried to have them dance a little differently each day. Even got to fill in as Pal the Dog! Oh, and the Momma's Cookies and Barqs... I can't begin to count the number of Mamma's Cookies and Barq's Soda I delivered to Uncle Al's office every day after the show for some lucky guest to take home. During the show the Momma's cookies were supposed to be for the kids, but I couldn't keep my hands out of the cookie bowl (especially when it was full of chocolate ones, my favorite. I worked with some great folks too, Tom York (Lucky), Marsha Torreano(sp),Show Coordinator, and Ray Lowry and Gil Efron fellow Floor Directors. We were always supposed to have Uncle Al's Banjo ready for him at all times in case he called for it. So one day we decided to play a trick on him and we handed him a "toy" plastic banjo instead of his real one. He didn't notice at first and just as he started to play it he realized he didn't have the real one. The kids thought it was hilarious! Although Al handled it well on air, believe me, we heard about it in a meeting later that day. Our "Uncle Al" will be truly missed but the great memories of the Uncle Al Show will live forever...Tom J.
