  • wcpo tour image This is some of our weather monitoring equipment. Attached to the post is an anemometer (measuring wind speed), hygrometer (relative humidity), thermometer, a rain bucket (rain fall) and a mini-computer to calculate wind chill.

  • wcpo tour image All the satellite dishes are controlled by a computer located in the Feed Room. The computer controls elevation of the dishes (tilting), their panning and polarization. It allows us to align the dishes with specific satellites orbiting the earth.

  • wcpo tour image The metal rod is part of the lightning deterrent system. It's basically a grounded metal cable connecting strategically placed metal rods, which serve as lightning receptors. The purpose of this device is to carry the lightning safely to earth.

  • wcpo tour image By installing this lightning deterrent system, we can reduce a risk of a direct lightning hit. As you can imagine a lightning strike can impair our "on-air" broadcast and we don't want to take any chances. The show must go on!
