Did you know...picking the right age pet is as important as picking the right type of dog or cat? Energy levels are also a very important consideration when choosing the perfect pet! Ultimately, we want pets that compliment our lifestyle, not complicate it!

*A 7 - 15 year old would be great for a mature family that has lots of love to give. Many mixed breed dogs live to be quite old. So, this dog may just have the best years ahead. They too have LOTS of love to share!

Ready to change diapers...well, people forget that while puppies are adorable, they are babies! Proper house training, exercise, veterinary care and crate training are all things to be considered. Things WILL get chewed up & perhaps peed on (or worse). They move fast when awake and sleep hard the rest of the time. The person seeking to adopt a puppy should set aside a good 15 years or so for a long happy companionship.

Energy Levels...An avid runner/hiker may look for a breed mix that's of the sporting/gun dogs or some of the herding/working dogs. A person who is content to sit on their computer or sit home & watch Channel 9 all evening may look for a lower energy pooch. The dogs with the short snouts are not great with vigorous activity or heat...Pugs, Bulldogs, Boston Terriers... Love a dog that wants to swim and fetch...Shepherds, Labs, Newfies, Border Collies, Aust Shepherd...

Adopting is a life long commitment that should be taken VERY seriously. ALL dogs are pack animals (like their forefathers, the wolf). They need us, they crave family and are most happy when they are with us...not being held hostage at the end of a chain in the yard 24/7. The pack that plays together, stays together!
