When did you start working here? June 2013

Where else have you worked? Founding publisher of three first-of-their-kind web sites: Opine Season (co-op op-ed page), MNuet (classical music) and 3-Minute Egg (online arts video program). Before that, I spent more than 20 years as a staff writer at a few daily newspapers—the last 10 of them with the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press.

Where did you go to college? THE Fresno State.

What are you most proud of when it comes to your work? After 20+ years specializing in long-form narratives at daily newspapers, reinventing myself as an online publisher and video journalist.

What do you love about living in the tri-state area? No cover charges (yet) at the best places to see local bands.

Favorite local hangouts? Haven't been here long enough to have a favorite, but I'm liking Northside Tavern, Motr and Southgate House for music. Mount Airy is a hidden gem. Still hunting for a decent swimming hole for my Labs.

All time favorites? Classic heavy metal (Judas Priest is my guilty pleasure) and '50s Broadway musicals ("Guys and Dolls").

Other than 9 On Your Side &, you get your news from: The smart and well-informed comment threads proliferating media web sites.

Apps you can't live without? Find my Phone, Find my Dad, Find my Life

Trivial Fact? I won a car, three trips and a bunch of junk on NBC's defunct game-show "Classic Concentration." Alex Trebek thought I was "kinda' cute."
