Larrys Blog

Welcome to my blog! No doubt this is going to be a little different for me and perhaps even a bit of an interruption to what I'm used to doing. But, I look forward to hearing from so many of you that I don't get to normally. People I know and that I don't know. I hope to discuss many things. Weather is always a good topic but the floor is open. Current events, sports, music, movies, children, relationships, faith, friends, our community, news, television and so much more. Life isn't about staying inside until the storm passes. Life is about dancing in the rain (as long as there is no lightning!) Care to join me?

Veterans Day...

Last Update: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 11:31 AM

It was so long ago. It seems like a different lifetime. I was just out of high school and still a teenager. But, it was time to get my adult life started and the prospects staying local were limited. I needed to be out on my own but was also fully aware that I was ill-prepared to succeed. I needed support and structure as I dove into the deep end of the pool of life. Kind of like when you learn to ride a bike, a little time with some training wheels can prevent a lot of bumps and bruises and major discouragement. That's a poor analogy of the 4 years I spent in the United States Air Force. It was much more important than that

Words...

On the door leading out to the garage at my house there's a hand-written note on lined notebook paper that says, "We Love You, Daddy! We'll Miss you!". My daughter put it up years ago when I was leaving on a week-long trip. It's not coming down anytime soon.

Fabulous Fall

Last Update: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 10:03 AM

We live in a wonderfully unique area with four distinct seasons all worthy and wonderful in their own way. Admittedly, I am not a fan of winter although I do enjoy the first snow - especially if it's the last one too.

Renewed...

Miami University is arguably the picture post-card for what a college campus should look like...Classic, brick buildings surrounded by mature trees and plenty of greenspace flanked by the quintessential college town of Oxford. It's especially beautiful this time of year when there's just a touch of cool to the air and the leaves are just beginning to show signs of changing over to a plethora of colors resembling each of the 64 crayons Crayola crams in the box with the sharpener. It's a perfect place to take a stroll particularly on a weekend when it's especially peaceful and quiet. I got the chance to do just that this past weekend and the reason I was there made it even better.

Anniversaries...

Last Update: Monday, September 14, 2009 11:49 AM

I always thought of anniversaries as happy occasions. You know, the celebration of monumental moments in life that are worthy of living over and over again like births and marriages. Well, there's nothing happy about what happened to our country on this date in 2001.

Most Trusted Man In America

Last Update: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 11:48 AM

It happened two weeks ago and is no longer "Breaking News". As you know by now, Walter Cronkite died on July 17. He was 92 years old. He was also an enormous part of this business I work in called broadcasting.

Imagine being a young man in 1941. A full year of work earned you about $1,750. With that salary you could buy a new home for a little over $4,000.

Viewer Mail...

Last Update: Tuesday, August 4, 2009 1:18 PM

I don't recall having ever contacted a T.V. station as a viewer. In fact, as a 20 year veteran of the television industry, I'm still amazed at the number of calls, emails and general correspondence that stations get.
